Absalom repeatedly urges and begs King David to let the royal princes attend his gathering [רד״ק]. Swayed by these constant pleas, the king finally gives in and sends Amnon along with the rest of his sons. King David is well aware that Absalom has no true affection for Amnon. Even so, he assumes the invitation is driven by a simple desire for status. He believes Absalom merely wants the honor of having the king's son present at his event [ביאור שטיינזלץ].
