The exact nature of this inner space is viewed differently by commentators. It may have been Amnon's personal bedroom [מצודת דוד], or perhaps a specific room reserved for dining [מלבי״ם]. Regardless of the room's usual purpose, Amnon makes his request deeply personal. He insists on being fed directly by her, making it clear that he wants to eat only from her hands and from no one else [מלבי״ם].
