The vast assembly of Levites includes the family of Elizaphan, a group that, much like the families of Hebron and Uzziel, belongs to the Kohathite branch. The Kohathites maintain a highly visible and large presence, numbering two hundred men under the leadership of Shemaiah the chief. Their significant numbers are directly tied to the unique responsibility placed upon them.
