God communicates His messages to the king through a designated prophet. The prophet Gad serves as this divine messenger, holding a highly specialized role as a personal seer to the monarch. He earned this unique distinction because every one of his prophecies was directed exclusively to David [מצודת דוד].

Gad stood directly at the king's service, offering guidance and assistance from time to time. He did not carry out this mission alone. Gad operated within the royal court alongside another prophet, Nathan, with both men serving the king simultaneously [ביאור שטיינזלץ].
