The choice of Solomon to build the Temple is based on a close, special relationship that God promises to create with him. This connection is compared directly to a family bond. The promise that Solomon will be like a son shows God's deep love for him, meaning he will be loved just as a son is loved by his father. At the same time, the guarantee that God will act as a father to Solomon defines how God will respond to him. It means that God will treat him with mercy and show him compassion, exactly like a father who cares for his child [מצודת דוד].
