King David offers his son Solomon vital words of encouragement as he prepares to build the Temple. For a young leader at the start of his reign, taking on such a massive and complex project could easily trigger deep anxiety and cause delays in the work. To counter this, David promises Solomon that heavenly assistance will accompany him throughout the entire process [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. This call for strength and courage is more than just motivation for the construction; it is an essential condition required to guarantee the eternal survival of Solomon's kingdom, exactly as God had promised [רש״י].

Facing the sheer scale of the mission, Solomon is warned not to give any room to thoughts of failure or to worry that he will not be able to finish the job [מצודת דוד]. David urges his son to avoid feelings of brokenness and dread, ensuring that he does not collapse under the immense pressure [מצודת ציון].

The promise of divine support is guaranteed to last until the project is entirely completed [מצודת ציון]. David stresses that Solomon must remain dedicated to the task and never pause in the middle of the work. He must push forward continuously until everything is completely finished [מלבי״ם, מצודת דוד].
