I Chronicles 28:11Sefaria

After publicly announcing the construction of the Temple to the Israelites, David transitions to a deeply personal and private moment. He passes the responsibility of building this sacred structure directly to his son Solomon [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. This handover is not a simple exchange of human blueprints. Every detail of the structure was precisely defined by God and conveyed through His prophets [רלב"ג]. Furthermore, the transfer of these plans is not merely a physical exchange. David actively teaches and guides Solomon, ensuring he understands the practical application of the intricate design [מצודת דוד].

David provides Solomon with the exact form and shape of the building [מצודת ציון], along with the precise measurements of its length, width, and height [רש"י]. The comprehensive plan breaks down the various sections of the Temple. It begins with the entrance hall, which serves as the outer space or courtyard at the front of the sanctuary [מצודת דוד, מלבי"ם], complete with its standing pillars [רלב"ג].

Surrounding and within this main hall are numerous side chambers and rooms [מצודת דוד, רלב"ג, מלבי"ם]. The complex also includes dedicated treasuries, which the primary approach among commentators identifies as secure chambers designed specifically for storing sacred wealth and holy items. Because of the immense height of the entrance hall, the design incorporates multiple upper levels and lofts [רלב"ג].

As the plans move deeper into the complex, they detail the inner rooms. There is a difference of opinion regarding these spaces. Some explain that they refer to the main sanctuary itself and its surrounding chambers [מלבי"ם], while another approach suggests they are rooms built directly above the holy space [רלב"ג]. Finally, the architectural guide culminates at the very heart of the Temple. All commentators agree that this final destination is the Holy of Holies, the most sacred chamber designed to house the sacred cover of the Ark.
