The safe return of the Ark of the Covenant brought about a clear division of duties and a deep expression of gratitude. The practical task of removing the Ark of God, along with the box containing the golden vessels, from the cart was specifically assigned to the Levites [מלבי״ם, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. They took these sacred items and placed them directly onto the large stone [מצודת ציון, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

Following this, the men of Beit Shemesh offered burnt offerings and sacrifices to show their thanks for the return of the Ark [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. The commentators agree that these offerings were entirely separate from the cows that had previously pulled the cart. Instead, the men of Beit Shemesh brought their own additional sacrifices to offer to God on that very same day [מלבי״ם, מצודת דוד].
