Isaiah 26:4Sefaria

A profound invitation is extended to humanity, urging people to adopt absolute trust in God not just as a fleeting feeling, but as a permanent way of life [שד״ל]. After experiencing moments of peace, the natural tendency is to rely on that temporary calm. Instead, an eternal call challenges individuals to look beyond the present and place their confidence entirely in the Divine. This message serves as mutual encouragement among people, or a legacy passed down from parents to children, warning them against depending on temporary stability The expectation is that this reliance must extend forever, spanning across all times and all realms of existence

To rely on anyone completely, two specific conditions must be met: the absolute ability to fulfill a request, and an eternal, unchanging will to do so. These traits exist only in God, making Him the exclusive destination for true trust [מלבי״ם]. Indeed [שד״ל], His very names reflect this eternal nature. One name indicates that all of creation stems from Him, while the other represents His true, unending essence [רד״ק].

The primary approach among commentators is to view God as an ultimate symbol of strength and power, much like a solid stone that provides a safe and unshakable shelter A different perspective connects this imagery to the concept of creation and form, portraying God as the active creator who constantly shapes and maintains existence Ultimately, God stands as the sustaining and strengthening force across all eras and dimensions. Both the current physical reality and the world to come rest entirely upon Him, as He remains the ultimate source and power behind everything
