Micah 2:1Sefaria

A harsh reality unfolds when those in positions of power use their authority to oppress the vulnerable, twisting their quiet hours of rest into calculated sessions of malice. Nighttime is naturally designed for rest and reflection. Lying in bed allows a person to withdraw into their own mind. Disconnected from the physical distractions of the day, human thought becomes exceptionally clear and focused Ideally, this quiet isolation should be a time to connect with God and reflect on His creations. Instead, these corrupt individuals spend their entire night meticulously plotting the harm they will inflict the following day [רש״י, אברבנאל]. They formulate detailed, wicked schemes, turning the sanctuary of sleep into a workshop of sin

It might seem strange to consider people merely lying in bed as active workers of evil, given that no physical theft or violence is taking place in the dark. The primary approach among commentators is that when a malicious plan is finalized with absolute certainty, and nothing stands in the way of its execution, the mere thought is treated as if the crime has already been committed Furthermore, because these individuals are habitual offenders, their wicked thoughts are an extension of their ongoing behavior, elevating the mental plotting to the severity of an actual physical act [חומת אנך].

The moment morning breaks and the sun rises, the planning ends and the physical execution begins They do not hesitate, rushing forward with intense energy to carry out their dark plots without any delay Their absolute confidence in acting so brazenly stems entirely from their might. They possess the raw strength, power, and audacity to do exactly as they please They oppress the poor simply because they have the ability to do so This behavior exposes a deeply broken society completely devoid of law and justice, where the strong overpower the weak. These criminals operate without any fear of the government or local judges, knowing full well that no one will intervene, protest, or stop them from robbing the defenseless
