Following a period of deep crisis and distress, a future Messianic king will emerge to lead the people of Israel into an era of profound security, bringing peace to the world and inspiring awe among all nations. Taking on the role of a devoted shepherd, this king will actively guide and provide for his people [רש"י, מצודת ציון, אבן עזרא]. However, his leadership will not rely on human might or personal ability, but entirely on the power of God [מצודת דוד].

This divine support will be shown in two distinct ways. First, the leader will be granted the strength necessary to stand firm and defend against opposing nations. Second, he will possess a miraculous, holy majesty used to guide Israel, which comes directly from the Divine Presence resting upon him [מלבי"ם]. This majesty is widely understood as a profound expression of authority and greatness [מצודת ציון, שטיינזלץ]. It will also be revealed through the justice he executes upon the nations, casting a deep reverence across the entire globe [רד"ק].

Under this new leadership, the people will experience a dramatic shift in their reality. The primary approach among commentators is that Israel will finally live securely in their land, enjoying absolute peace and quiet, entirely free from the fear of war. This state of living represents a complete and final rest, marking the end of all wandering and instability [מלבי"ם]. Complementing this idea is the understanding that the people will physically return from their long exile back to their rightful home [רש"י].

Ultimately, the greatness of this leader will not be confined to his own land. His honor and reputation will spread to the very edges of the earth, reaching the farthest corners of the world [רד"ק, מצודת דוד, מצודת ציון, שטיינזלץ]. As a practical demonstration of this global recognition, nations from the most distant lands will travel to bring him royal gifts of horses and chariots [רש"י].
