Micah 5:10Sefaria

A time of absolute peace and divine security will eventually spread across the world, making human defensive walls completely unnecessary. In this future era, physical fortifications and barriers will be entirely dismantled.

The primary approach among commentators is that the removal of walls and fortresses is not a punishment, but a profound blessing of security. Following great conflicts, such as the war of Gog and Magog, God will fight on behalf of the people. He will establish a peace so deep that the fear of enemies will vanish, completely eliminating the need for the physical protection of walls and weapons The shattering of these structures simply reinforces the reality of this newfound safety

Leaving behind fortified enclosures for open towns also brings significant improvements to daily life. The open spaces offer a healthier environment with cleaner air and more room to breathe compared to crowded cities, while also lowering the cost of living

Other perspectives offer different reasons for this destruction. Some view these locations not as normal residential areas, but as military centers used to store weapons and chariots, which will no longer be needed and will therefore be abolished [מלבי״ם]. Another approach suggests that dismantling these cities and fortresses serves to uproot a false sense of self-reliance. By removing both the open towns of warriors who trust in their own physical strength and the fortresses of those who rely on stone walls, God proves that true protection comes only from Him [אהבת יהונתן]. Finally, an alternative tradition proposes that the cities and fortresses slated for destruction do not belong to the people at all, but are rather the fortified strongholds of rival nations and enemies
