מיכה, פרק ה׳, פסוק ט׳

Micah 5:9Sefaria

The future of humanity holds a profound shift in how security and power are understood. A time of eternal peace will eventually arrive, following major global conflicts, specifically the war of Gog and Magog [רד״ק, מלבי״ם]. The primary approach among commentators is that the elimination of military forces during this era is not a punishment. Rather, it reflects a new reality where weapons are simply unnecessary. In the ancient world, horses and chariots served as the primary tools of battle. They will vanish because war itself will completely cease to exist [אבן עזרא, ביאור שטיינזלץ, אברבנאל].

Beyond establishing physical peace, the removal of these weapons represents a deep spiritual change in how the people find security. Instead of placing their trust in human armies and physical strength, they will rely entirely on the help of God for their salvation [מצודת דוד]. This vision is also tied to the correction of historical mistakes. In ancient times, forming military alliances with Egypt and depending on them for a supply of horses was a fundamental failure of the people. Therefore, the removal of horses serves to break that negative reliance on Egyptian aid [רש״י].

Ultimately, this process guides the people toward complete repentance. When they face the future hardships of the Gog and Magog conflict without any military equipment, they will not repeat the sins of their past by turning to Egypt for help. The total absence of military might will compel them to remain in the Land of Israel, holding fast to God and their inheritance. Through this, they achieve true repentance by correcting the very root of their historical failure, right where it originally occurred [אהבת יהונתן].
