II Chronicles 31:6Sefaria

וּבְנֵ֧י יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל וִיהוּדָ֗ה הַיּוֹשְׁבִים֮ בְּעָרֵ֣י יְהוּדָה֒ גַּם־הֵ֗ם מַעְשַׂ֤ר בָּקָר֙ וָצֹ֔אן וּמַעְשַׂ֣ר קׇֽדָשִׁ֔ים הַמְקֻדָּשִׁ֖ים לַיהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵיהֶ֑ם הֵבִ֕יאוּ וַֽיִּתְּנ֖וּ עֲרֵמ֥וֹת עֲרֵמֽוֹת׃ {ס}

A profound spiritual awakening swept through the people, inspiring an extraordinary outpouring of generosity. The residents of the cities of Judah joined together, bringing massive amounts of contributions and tithes. Going beyond the usual offerings of crops and produce, they also brought tithes of their animals [מצודת דוד]. Typically, the meat from an animal tithe is eaten by the owners themselves after the required portions are offered on the altar. In this remarkable instance, however, the owners chose to give the meat entirely to the priests and Levites [מלבי״ם].

This wave of dedication also included a special category of holy tithes, which commentators understand in two distinct ways. One approach explains that this refers to the tithe of the tithe, meaning the specific portion that the Levites separate from the tithes they receive and pass on to the priests [רש״י]. Another perspective suggests that the people went even further, choosing to separate a tithe from property that was dedicated to God, even though such property is technically exempt from this requirement [רד״ק, מצודת דוד]. To observe the law properly, they carefully separated this tithe before officially dedicating the property, and only afterward dedicated the remainder to Him [מלבי״ם].

All of this abundant wealth was brought directly to Jerusalem [מצודת דוד], where it was gathered into massive heaps. Grain and fruit were stacked so high that they formed literal mountains [רלב״ג, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. The enormous quantity of these offerings created a staggering display of devotion [מצודת ציון]. Ultimately, the generosity of the Israelites was so overwhelming that the towering piles of tithes far exceeded what the Levites actually needed [מלבי״ם].
