The evil actions committed during this period represent a tragic return to the sins of the ancient Canaanites. The true severity of these wrongdoings lies in their history. These were the exact same terrible practices of the foreign nations that God had previously driven out and completely removed to make way for the Israelites. Instead of leaving those corrupt traditions in the past, there was a deliberate return to the very same destructive patterns of behavior that God had already eradicated from the land.
