The conclusion of King Manasseh's reign is marked by a departure from standard royal burial practices. Rather than a traditional state funeral, he was laid to rest privately within his own home. While the Book of Kings mentions that he was buried in the garden of his house, these details do not conflict. The concept of his home serves as a broad description for the entire estate, encompassing both the main living quarters and the surrounding grounds. Therefore, he was actually buried in the private garden situated within his personal property [רד״ק, רש״י, מלבי״ם].

This private burial carries a deeper significance regarding his legacy. Unlike other monarchs, Manasseh was denied the honor of being buried alongside his ancestors in the official royal tombs [רש״י]. This departure from tradition occurred because, toward the end of his life, his public standing and royal status suffered a severe decline. As a result, he was not granted a place in the traditional state burial plot [ביאור שטיינזלץ].
