The murder of a king does not always mean the nation wants to reject the monarchy entirely. Even during periods of severe crisis, the loyalty of the public to the dynasty of David remained unbroken. King Amon’s actions likely angered those closest to him, sparking a rebellion that ultimately led to his assassination. However, the general public responded to this treason with swift and decisive force.

Stepping in to restore order, the people executed all the conspirators who had plotted against the king. Driven by their enduring support for the historic royal line, they immediately crowned his son, Josiah, to take his place. Taking the throne under these violent circumstances, Josiah was destined to become the last great king of the kingdom of Judah, and by extension, the final great leader of the remaining people of Israel.
