Rather than following the righteous path of his ancestors in Judah, he chose to adopt the corrupt practices of the kings of Israel, actively copying their sins.

The root cause of this moral failure was his marriage to the daughter of Ahab. Through her deep influence, Jehoram was drawn into idol worship, directly mirroring the destructive actions of his father-in-law [אברבנאל].
