The royal family's genealogy traces its roots by carefully detailing the birth order of its founding father's oldest sons. The patriarch of this lineage, the father of David, is introduced with a slight variation in his name [מצודת ציון, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. While this shift is recognized as a standard linguistic interchange where certain letters naturally swap [רד"ק], it also carries a deeper conceptual meaning. The added letter forms the word for "man," subtly hinting that he was a mighty man of great valor [רש"י].

The lineage proceeds sequentially through his first three children. Eliab is listed as the firstborn, followed by Abinadab as the second. The third son, Shimea, is the exact same individual known as Shammah in the Book of Samuel [רד"ק], a figure whose own sons are also mentioned in several places throughout those historical accounts [ביאור שטיינזלץ].
