Tracing a family tree requires choosing which branches to follow and which to leave behind. In the genealogical records, Perez has two sons, Hezron and Hamul. Although both sons are introduced side by side, the historical record does not provide any further information about the descendants of Hamul. Instead, the focus narrows entirely to the ongoing lineage of the families of Perez. This deliberate choice to follow one specific path through the family tree is made out of respect for the House of David. Because the royal dynasty of David emerges from this exact genealogical line, it is highlighted exclusively [מלבי״ם].
