In the future, the human obsession with false gods will come to a definitive end. While human pride is something God will eventually humble and bring low, idol worship faces a much harsher fate: total and absolute destruction [מלבי״ם].

The primary approach among commentators is that this future event involves a complete eradication. God Himself will actively intervene to wipe out every trace of these false deities [אבן עזרא, רד״ק]. This absolute removal is set to occur during the Messianic era, ensuring that even the most hidden idols in the farthest corners of the earth will vanish entirely [רד״ק].

However, another perspective suggests that the end of idol worship will not necessarily involve God physically destroying statues. Instead, it is a matter of lost glory. The honor and crown of these false gods will simply fade away [שד״ל, ר' יהודה הלוי]. As humanity faces moments of crisis, people will clearly see that these objects are completely powerless to save them. Stripped of their perceived importance and majesty, the idols will be willingly cast aside and abandoned by the very people who once worshipped them [שד״ל, ביאור שטיינזלץ].
