Because these severe warnings come directly from God, they act as an urgent call to action. The people are instructed to actively correct their behavior and fix their daily actions [מצודת ציון]. By choosing to mend their ways, they open the door for a different outcome. Only after the people take this necessary step to improve will God relent and cancel the punishment He had planned to bring upon them [מצודת דוד].
