Prophecies of success, rather than saving the people, ultimately lead to the exact opposite result, bringing about complete destruction and exile.

From a practical standpoint, survival requires submission. If the people simply accepted the burden of subjugation and paid taxes to the foreign empire, they would be allowed to remain safely in their homeland. However, by trusting in false promises and choosing to go to war, they guarantee their own defeat. The enemy will overpower them and carry them away as captives to a distant land [מצודת דוד].

Beneath this political reality lies a deeper divine plan. The false prophets and sorcerers are actually working against their own conscious goals. Without realizing it, they serve as blind tools in the hands of God. They act as His instruments, ensuring that anyone who chooses to follow their lies will ultimately be destroyed [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

Furthermore, the resulting exile is not merely the natural consequence of a failed military rebellion. It is a deliberate and direct action taken by God. He is the one who actively assists the enemy in driving the people out of their homeland, sealing their absolute downfall [מצודת דוד].
