True wisdom and understanding are not the exclusive property of the elderly or those with decades of life experience. The deepest intellectual grasp is a divine spark, a spiritual quality placed within humanity from above, allowing even the young to access profound sources of understanding. There is a powerful realization that the spirit found within a person is the true source of wisdom. This intelligence is not simply gathered as the years pass; it flows directly from the spirit of God present in humanity [רש״י, מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Rather than relying merely on physical senses or accumulated life experience, this wisdom is built upon inner truths naturally hidden deep inside the human spirit [מלבי״ם].

While some commentators view the different spiritual concepts in this context as poetic repetition expressing the same idea [מצודת דוד], others highlight a profound distinction based on mystical teachings. They separate the basic spiritual life force from a higher, divine soul. The spirit is understood as the spiritual element that physically resides inside the human body. In contrast, the higher soul is a supreme divine spark that exists, lives, and understands even before it comes down into this world [מלבי״ם].

Because of its immense spiritual height, this supreme soul does not fully enter the physical body but rather hovers just above it [חומת אנך]. Alternatively, this elevated soul is not given to everyone, but is a rare gift possessed by only a few unique individuals [אלשיך]. The purpose of this higher soul is to draw understanding directly from God. It then channels that divine intelligence downward into the spirit that dwells inside the person. Through this process, a person is empowered to grasp deep truths and logically deduce new concepts from existing ones.
