The region of Gilead was shared between two major powers. The primary approach among commentators is that this area was split directly between King Og and King Sihon. The half of Gilead belonging to Og continued right up to the edge of Sihon's domain. The remaining half of the region was under the firm control of Sihon, the king of Heshbon.
