The courtyard of the Tabernacle required a precise system of supports and connections to remain upright and stable. The physical integrity of this space relied heavily on a network of ropes specifically designed to bind the pillars of the courtyard directly to its fabric hangings.

Although it might seem that the curtains had their own independent ropes, the actual construction demanded a unified system. The ropes had to be fastened to the curtains on one end and secured to the pillars on the other, effectively locking the different parts of the Tabernacle together. Because these ropes served as the essential bridge between the solid pillars and the woven fabric, they were not viewed as mere accessories.
