תהלים, פרק קי״ה, פסוק י״ג

Psalms 115:13Sefaria

יְ֭בָרֵךְ יִרְאֵ֣י יְהֹוָ֑ה הַ֝קְּטַנִּ֗ים עִם־הַגְּדֹלִֽים׃

God extends His blessing to all who revere Him, creating a wide canopy of grace that ignores standard human divisions. This divine favor spans across gaps in age, social standing, and spiritual capacity. The focus on those who fear God naturally ties into the households of the Israelites and of Aaron mentioned earlier, as the concept of a household inherently includes every single member within its framework. While actively trusting in God demands a certain level of intellectual maturity and life experience that young children simply do not possess, receiving His blessing has no such requirement. It flows freely to everyone [רד״ק].

Commentators explore exactly how this wide embrace brings the small and the great together. One perspective views this as a matter of age, uniting the youth with the elderly [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Within this view, there are different ways to understand how the blessing is shared. It may be that the young receive their blessing entirely through the merit of the adults [רד״ק]. Alternatively, God levels the field completely, meaning both the young and the old are viewed as equals and are granted the exact same blessing [אבן עזרא].

Another approach looks past age and focuses instead on social standing and spiritual achievement. In this light, the lesser group represents the general masses of the Israelites, who may sit at a more basic spiritual level. The greater group represents the priests from the line of Aaron, who are elevated and distinguished by their spiritual quality. Yet, the divine blessing unites them all, reaching the ordinary citizen just as it reaches the highest priest [אלשיך].
