תהלים, פרק קי״ה, פסוק ט״ו

Psalms 115:15Sefaria

בְּרוּכִ֣ים אַ֭תֶּם לַיהֹוָ֑ה עֹ֝שֵׂ֗ה שָׁמַ֥יִם וָאָֽרֶץ׃

A divine declaration of blessing serves as a firm promise and confirmation that prayers for the people's welfare will be completely fulfilled [אבן עזרא, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. This assurance carries multiple layers of meaning. It acts as a guarantee that God will bless the people repeatedly [מצודת דוד]. At the same time, it is not merely a future hope but an existing reality, as the people have enjoyed a comprehensive blessing since ancient times [מלבי״ם]. The profound purpose behind this blessing, and the worldly success it brings, is never purely material. Rather, it is designed to guide a person toward serving God [מאירי].

The absolute authority of this blessing is rooted in God's role as the Creator of the universe. The primary approach among commentators is that the One who formed the sky and the land, and who rules over both the upper and lower worlds, holds the ultimate power to bless whomever He desires [רד״ק, אבן עזרא].

Furthermore, the act of creation is understood as an ongoing, present action rather than a finished event of the past. This continuous reality carries two main meanings. First, it rejects the foreign belief that the world was created long ago and now runs independently through the fixed laws of nature. Instead, God renews creation every day and remains constantly active. He guides the heavens through general laws, while directing the earth with specific, individual providence that responds directly to human choices [מלבי״ם, מאירי].

A second perspective applies this ongoing creation to the spiritual realm. God is constantly forming new, spiritual heavens and earth. These spiritual worlds are not created for God Himself, but are specifically intended to bring spiritual delight to the souls of Israel, serving as the ultimate proof that they are truly blessed by Him [אלשיך].
