Psalms 14:3Sefaria

A state of profound moral collapse grips society, revealing a reality where the entire community has abandoned virtue and plunged into collective corruption. The primary approach among commentators is that humanity has completely deviated from the path of goodness and integrity. This deviation is deeply rooted in decay, with some interpreting the societal state as a condition of moral rot and foulness From a social perspective, the corruption is so entrenched that no one even dares to protest against the wicked acts taking place [רש״י].

As a result of this widespread departure from the right path, society becomes entirely tainted with impurity, filth, and absolute ruin. The severity of this sin is magnified by the fact that it is a shared endeavor. The corruption is not limited to isolated individuals; rather, the sinners actively gather to publicly abandon the Torah and oppose the will of God. This unified front of rebellion effectively doubles their guilt

This downward spiral leads to a bleak reality where goodness has vanished, leaving not a single righteous person behind This total absence of virtue points to the wicked who harbor hatred toward Israel [אבן עזרא], or highlights a spiritual void where there is not even one individual willing to support those who study the Torah [חומת אנך]. Looking through a broader historical and spiritual lens, this absolute lack of righteousness reflects King David's prophetic sorrow over the long and bitter exile. He draws a comparison to earlier periods in history, such as the time of Haman's decree. In those ancient days, despite the sins of the people, God carefully watched over them and sought out a righteous individual, like Mordecai, to serve as a channel for salvation. Faced with the current moral desolation, David asks a painful and shocking question: Is it possible that during the long exile, the corruption will become so absolute that not a single righteous person will remain to awaken heavenly mercy and bring about redemption?
