Absolute trust in a Divine promise grants a person the inner strength to withstand threats and face enemies, even when reality appears entirely bleak. David declares his unwavering faith in God, praising Him specifically for the promise he received. This refers to the prophecy delivered by Samuel, assuring David that he would eventually rule over Israel [רד״ק, אבן עזרא, מצודת דוד]. Despite living as a hunted exile moving from place to place, David maintains complete confidence that God will keep His word and save him, knowing that no human being can cancel a Divine guarantee [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. This expression of praise is fundamentally tied to his deep, underlying reliance on God [מלבי״ם].

A deeper layer of this trust emerges from the specific name of God used in this context, which traditionally represents strict justice. Even when facing harsh judgment, suffering, and distress, David does not question the ways of the Creator. Instead, he continues to praise God's word and trust Him [רש״י, אלשיך]. By praising God for the good promised in the future, David proves the depth of his faith during present hardships [אלשיך]. Taking a different approach, another perspective views David's opening declaration as an oath. In this light, he swears by God that he will fulfill his own commitments and fight his battles, placing his trust in the Creator so that he needs to fear no man [מאירי].

Rooted in this profound trust, David concludes that he has no fear of human threats. By viewing his enemies merely as flesh, he highlights the sharp contrast between human frailty and Divine might. No matter how intimidating his pursuers may appear, they are ultimately just physical beings lacking the spiritual power to defy God. Consequently, they are entirely powerless to harm him against God's will [אלשיך].
