תהלים, פרק צ״ה, פסוק ג׳

Psalms 95:3Sefaria

כִּ֤י אֵ֣ל גָּד֣וֹל יְהֹוָ֑ה וּמֶ֥לֶךְ גָּ֝ד֗וֹל עַל־כׇּל־אֱלֹהִֽים׃

True praise and song to God flow naturally from a deep recognition of His absolute superiority and rule over every force in creation [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. God guides the world through two distinct expressions of His authority. The first is His boundless power as the Creator of everything, possessing the absolute ability to bend and change the laws of nature at His will [מלבי״ם, מאירי]. Some suggest this creative might is fundamentally an expression of His profound kindness [אלשיך]. The second expression is His active leadership and providence. Once humanity recognizes His immense power as the Creator, it becomes clear that He is also the active King who governs the world with justice [מלבי״ם, אלשיך].

Throughout the universe, there are other forces that might appear independent, but they are entirely subordinate to God. The primary approach among commentators is that these forces are the angels and heavenly hosts. While they may act as judges over the earth, they never operate on their own authority; they are merely messengers carrying out God's work [רד״ק, אבן עזרא, מצודת דוד]. Others view these subordinate powers as the general forces of nature [מלבי״ם], or even as the false gods of other nations. Ultimately, God executes judgment upon these false deities, clearly displaying His absolute kingship and justice over them [אלשיך].

God's ultimate greatness and complete ownership of reality carry a deeply practical meaning for human beings. Because everything belongs to Him and He is the exclusive ruler, He holds the ultimate authority to forgive sins. Understanding this reality invites people, as His handiwork, to humble themselves before Him and seek His forgiveness [חומת אנך].

Looking toward the future, this dynamic serves as a vision for the Messianic era. In the present world, there are those who deny God's power or His active involvement in daily life. However, a time will come when this truth will be undeniable. All nations and all of humanity will clearly recognize His power. The current denial will completely fade away, replaced by a universal understanding that He is the sole ruler over every force in existence [רד״ק, מלבי״ם].
