Egypt long stood as a heavily protected empire, largely untouched by enemy invasions or foreign conquests. Yet, it now faces an unprecedented reality. For the first time in its history, the nation will experience true ruin, and its fate will mirror that of other regional powers that have already been destroyed [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

To emphasize the severity of this coming judgment, the prophetic message repeats the decree of destruction using a poetic parallel structure [רד״ק]. The Egyptians and those who support them will be entirely transformed into a desolate wasteland [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Rather than standing apart as an untouchable power, Egypt will be counted among the many ruined countries and nations [רד״ק]. Its downfall will look exactly like theirs [מצודת דוד], resulting in absolute devastation [מצודת ציון]. Ultimately, the once-secure Egyptian cities will lose all their safety, joining a long and tragic list of desolate cities that have fallen to enemy forces [ביאור שטיינזלץ].
