יחזקאל, פרק ל׳, פסוק א׳

Ezekiel 30:1Sefaria

וַיְהִ֥י דְבַר־יְהֹוָ֖ה אֵלַ֥י לֵאמֹֽר׃

A divine message introduces a fresh vision concerning the ultimate fate of Egypt and its neighboring nations [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. It serves as a connecting link in a broader series of revelations about the downfall of Egypt. However, there are differing views on the exact timing and purpose of this specific message compared to the ones that preceded it.

In terms of timing and structure, this vision appears to complete the messages delivered during the tenth year of exile. It returns to the events of Egypt's collapse, offering greater detail and a different style. This repetition is intentional. When a prophetic message is repeated several times, it serves as a guarantee that the events will absolutely come to pass [מלבי״ם].

Conversely, another perspective expands the timeline significantly, viewing this revelation as a sudden leap into the distant future. It is a known pattern in prophecy that a vision of an upcoming event is often followed immediately by a vision of a similar event destined for the end of days. Therefore, while the earlier messages focused on the imminent destruction of Egypt at the hands of Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, this current vision points toward a far more massive and extraordinary devastation. This future ruin, referred to as the day of God, will sweep across many distant nations that were entirely untouched by the historical conquests of Babylon [אברבנאל].
