Following a period of national destruction and deep doubt, a powerful message signals a historical turning point for the people of Israel and the prophet Ezekiel. A promise of renewed strength uses the imagery of a sprouting horn as a metaphor for government, authority, and power, much like an animal uses its horns to gather strength and engage in battle [מצודת ציון, צאינה וראינה].

The exact timing of this renewed strength is a matter of discussion. The primary approach among commentators links this moment to the end of Egypt's forty-year exile. During this period, the Persian empire began to rise. For Israel, this newfound power manifested through Cyrus, the King of Persia, who would eventually allow the rebuilding of the Temple and free the exiles from Babylonian control [רש״י, מצודת דוד, רד״ק, חומת אנך]. Alternatively, this turning point may refer to the time when Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon, completed his conquest of Egypt. In this view, Israel's pride and strength were restored through public miracles that sanctified the name of God, specifically when Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah were saved from the fiery furnace, and when Ezekiel resurrected the dead in the valley of Dura [מלבי״ם].

Alongside the national revival, Ezekiel experiences a profound personal shift in how he is received by the public. Since his early prophecies, skeptics had challenged him, pointing out that his predictions of Egypt's downfall had not materialized over time, while Judah had suffered destruction [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. However, once his prophecies come to pass, Ezekiel is granted the ability to speak freely and confidently. Witnessing the complete fulfillment of his words, the people will finally recognize him as a true prophet. This newfound trust will allow him to guide them, offer correction, and lead them to sincere repentance with open hearts [מצודת דוד, חומת אנך, אהבת יהונתן].

This renewed voice also carries a unique spiritual advantage. While receiving a prophecy typically requires a person to isolate and distance themselves from society, God assures Ezekiel that he will be able to prophesy while remaining directly among the people, without any need for seclusion [אדרת אליהו]. Ultimately, all of these unfolding events serve a single, unifying purpose. Through the realization of the prophecies regarding Egypt and the subsequent salvation of Israel, everyone will clearly recognize that God is entirely faithful to His word and consistently fulfills His promises [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ].
