יחזקאל, פרק ו׳, פסוק א׳

Following a series of prophecies detailing the punishments destined for the people of Judah and the city of Jerusalem, a new message of judgment arrives. This communication marks a transition, directing its focus specifically toward the Land of Israel and its sinful inhabitants [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

The primary target of this new prophecy is the mountainous region surrounding Jerusalem [אברבנאל]. The reason God speaks to the prophet at this moment is rooted in the sins of the people. They had developed a widespread practice of worshiping idols on the high mountains, upon the elevated hills, and deep within the valleys.

In response to these actions, God declares the coming destruction of the high places and altars built across these natural landscapes. His message announces the certain punishment of all those who participated in idol worship [אברבנאל].
