יחזקאל, פרק ו׳, פסוק ג׳

A severe prophecy is directed at the physical landscape of the Land of Israel, warning of an impending destruction meant to uproot the idol worship that has infected the terrain. The warning addresses the land through complementary pairs of topographical features. First, it calls out to the massive, towering mountains and the smaller elevated hills that surround them [מלבי״ם, רש״י]. Correspondingly, it speaks to the deep ravines where strong waters rush between the high mountains [מלבי״ם, מצודת ציון, ביאור שטיינזלץ], as well as the lower valleys nestled between the smaller hills [מלבי״ם, מצודת ציון, רש״י].

God announces the coming punishment with a doubled declaration of His presence, emphasizing His absolute determination and readiness to carry out the judgment [ביאור שטיינזלץ, מנחת שי]. He warns that a sword will be brought against the land. This refers not merely to weapons or the abstract concept of war, but to an invasion by highly trained soldiers who will lay waste to the region [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

The ultimate purpose of this devastation is to eliminate the high places scattered across these mountains and hills. These high places are elevated structures and stone altars erected specifically for idol worship [מצודת דוד, מצודת ציון, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Furthermore, these sites were often private altars built by individuals for their own personal use [מלבי״ם].
