הושע, פרק ב׳, פסוק י״ט

Hosea 2:19Sefaria

The future era promises a profound spiritual transformation, marking the complete eradication of idolatry and the dawn of a direct, exclusive relationship between the people and God. This ultimate shift is not brought about through divine coercion, but rather through spiritual support. When individuals make the genuine choice to turn away from their past wrongs, God steps in to help them, purifying their hearts and guiding them back to Him completely. This reflects the foundational principle that those who actively seek to cleanse themselves receive heavenly assistance [אבן עזרא, רד״ק].

As part of this renewal, God will instill a natural desire within the people to avoid uttering the names of false deities entirely, even in casual conversation without any intent to worship [מצודת דוד]. This represents a deep, fundamental shift in human consciousness. Historically, false gods represented a belief in mediating forces or heavenly systems that supposedly channeled blessings into the world. Erasing them from the public vocabulary signifies a clear, absolute recognition that the entire world operates strictly under God's direct providence. With the illusion of spiritual mediators shattered, the practice of idolatry will naturally and permanently dissolve [מלבי״ם].

The resulting disconnect from false worship will be absolute, unfolding in several distinct ways. The Israelites will no longer be associated with these false gods in any capacity, nor will the idols ever again be recognized as their deities [רש״י]. If these former idols are ever brought up in passing conversation, they will not be called by their original titles, but rather referred to using derogatory terms [מצודת דוד]. Ultimately, the specific names of these idols will simply be erased from human memory, fading completely from the world [רש״י, רד״ק].

This process of forgetting and spiritual cleansing will eventually expand across two vast dimensions: the universal and the intergenerational. Globally, the eradication of idolatry will not be limited to the Israelites alone. The nations of the world will also abandon their false beliefs, ensuring these names are never spoken anywhere as all of humanity unites to worship God together. Across time, this purity will span all eras. The false names will be removed from the lips of the specific generation that experiences this ultimate salvation, and they will remain entirely forgotten by all future generations forever [רד ק בשם רס״ג].
