Hosea 2:11Sefaria

When a nation credits its wealth and success to idols or the blind forces of nature, God changes how He interacts with them to reveal the true source of their blessings. Rather than preventing the rains from falling in the first place, God allows the crops to grow fully. He then removes the produce at the very last moment, just before the people can use it. This precise timing proves that their loss is the result of deliberate divine oversight, not simply the random acts of nature

In response to the nation's behavior, God declares that He will take back all the abundance He previously granted Commentators offer different views on exactly how this loss will happen. God might send enemies to plunder the fields [אבן עזרא], strike the land with natural disasters like hail and locusts [מצודת דוד], or simply place a sweeping curse over the entire harvest [רד״ק].

The loss will occur precisely when the produce finishes ripening There is a fascinating distinction in the timing of these losses based on the type of crop. The grain will be taken at its natural harvest time, exactly when it becomes ripe and ready to be cut. In contrast, the grapes will be taken at a time chosen by human calculation. Grapes are typically left on the vine to continue baking in the sun, and their harvest depends entirely on the owner's schedule. God will intervene at the exact moments these different crops are meant to be gathered [מלבי״ם].

Beyond the food supply, God will also remove the wool and flax He provided. This action is not an act of rescue or saving, but a forceful separation and taking away Furthermore, this taking involves snatching away resources that are already firmly in the people's hands and ready for use, rather than a loss that happens from afar before the goods ever reach the owner [מלבי״ם]. This removal will happen either through the sudden death of the sheep and the destruction of the flax crops [מצודת דוד], or by the loss of the finished garments themselves [מלבי״ם].

These materials were intended to cover the nation's bare flesh [מצודת ציון]. By stripping away these resources, the nation will be left completely exposed. This sudden vulnerability serves a profound purpose, showing the people that even their most basic, everyday needs depend entirely on God
