Hosea 2:20Sefaria

A profound vision of redemption and world peace promises to transform every layer of existence. In this future reality, the dangers of the natural world and the violent threats of humanity are entirely dismantled, paving the way for a new era defined by security and brotherhood.

God initiates this harmony by establishing a unique relationship with the animal kingdom. The primary approach among commentators is that this is not a standard agreement, but a metaphorical covenant of peace ensuring that animals will no longer harm humans Some expand this vision, noting that peace will even prevail among the wild beasts and birds themselves [צאינה וראינה]. This reality reverses ancient curses where predators constantly threatened human life [אבן עזרא], effectively removing harmful creatures from the world [רש״י].

This profound peace also guarantees agricultural and physical protection. Flocks of birds and swarms of locusts will no longer devour the crops [רד״ק]. Furthermore, humanity will be safe from small, short-legged creeping creatures [מצודת ציון], specifically dangerous pests like snakes and scorpions [רד״ק]. Beyond the literal animal kingdom, the wild beasts serve as a metaphor for the savage nations that preyed on Israel in ancient times; in this redeemed future, their attacks will completely cease [מלבי״ם]. Additionally, humanity will be elevated above the standard laws of nature and astrology, with those forces left to govern only the animal world [מלבי״ם].

Once the dangers of the natural world are neutralized, the focus shifts to the threats born from human free will. God promises the complete abolition of weapons and the very concept of war The end of war is understood as the removal of the warriors themselves, or as a general promise covering any weapons not explicitly named [רד״ק]. Highlighting specific weapons serves to heal an earlier prophecy about the breaking of Israel's military strength, transforming that past judgment into a universal promise of peace [אבן עזרא]. Ultimately, the removal of both natural disasters and human conflicts leads to a state of perfect rest, where all people will live together in absolute security, peace, and brotherhood
