The Ark of the Covenant occupied a unique position, physically separated from the central Tabernacle located in Gibeon. This separation was a distinct exception, highlighting that only the Ark of God was kept apart from the rest of the Tabernacle [ביאור שטיינזלץ].
Rather than remaining with the other sacred items, the Ark was moved from Kiriath-jearim to a new location chosen specifically for it. King David personally designated and readied this site. To house the Ark properly in Jerusalem, he stretched out and set up a dedicated tent entirely for this sacred purpose [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ].
