II Chronicles 1:1Sefaria

Solomon's ascension to the throne marks the emergence of a leader possessing both immense political authority and profound spiritual depth. As his reign begins, he enters a stage of true independence. Rather than relying on the guidance and influence of his father, David, he steps forward to lead entirely on his own [מלבי״ם]. This newfound strength takes a highly practical form. He systematically removes opponents who threaten his rule and expands his control over foreign kingdoms that bring him tribute, allowing him to sit securely on his throne

The primary approach among commentators is that the direct cause of this remarkable strength is the constant support and presence of God. Furthermore, Solomon draws significant power from the merit of his father, a holy and pious king, which helps him achieve a state of spiritual perfection [חומת אנך].

As his kingdom continues to develop and grow [ביאור שטיינזלץ], his greatness takes on a much deeper dimension. Beyond the standard political success visible to the public, his elevation is fundamentally spiritual. He experiences a profound uplift in his inner soul, a higher form of greatness granted specifically because God is with him [מלבי״ם].
