An elevated heart is typically viewed as a negative expression of arrogance. In this instance, however, it takes on a pure and positive meaning, describing a person whose will was lifted to act with deep inspiration, strength, and courage in serving God [רש״י, רלב״ג, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Despite possessing great wealth, honor, and success, he did not take pride in his material achievements. To him, worldly gains meant nothing compared to the value of walking in God's ways [מצודת דוד, מלבי״ם]. This spiritual elevation was not a static condition but an ongoing, active process. He constantly worked to achieve personal perfection day by day, steadily climbing from one level to the next and continually adding holiness to his life [חומת אנך].

His dedication extended far beyond his own personal conduct. Not satisfied with merely walking an upright path himself, he built upon the actions of his father and took responsibility for his surroundings, actively influencing and even compelling the people to follow this same spiritual direction [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Because idol worship and the use of private altars had a tendency to resurface over time, there was a constant, pressing need to root out these remaining practices from Judah. By continuously clearing away these remnants, he ensured that the entire nation would hold fast to God's Torah [רלב״ג, מלבי״ם, ביאור שטיינזלץ].
