II Chronicles 17:16Sefaria

וְעַל־יָדוֹ֙ עֲמַסְיָ֣ה בֶן־זִכְרִ֔י הַמִּתְנַדֵּ֖ב לַיהֹוָ֑ה וְעִמּ֛וֹ מָאתַ֥יִם אֶ֖לֶף גִּבּ֥וֹר חָֽיִל׃ {ס}

The military rosters of ancient Israel often reflect the immense scale and readiness of the nation's defense forces. The massive numbers of troops recorded typically point to an extensive network of reserve units rather than a full standing army. It was customary to count every individual capable of bearing arms, even though only a limited number of battalions were kept on active duty at any given time [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

One of the key commanders positioned closely alongside the leadership was Amasiah the son of Zichri [רש״י]. He is remembered by a unique title, known as the one who willingly offered himself to God. This specific designation was likely given to him to distinguish him from another individual who shared the exact same name [רד״ק].

The nature of his remarkable dedication is understood in a few different ways. One perspective suggests that his devotion was expressed through profound material generosity, as he was known to give frequent and significant donations to God [מצודת דוד], possibly contributing his own silver and gold directly to the Temple treasury [רד״ק]. Another approach views his willingness in a broader sense, suggesting that he completely dedicated his physical being and personal property to his service [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. This mirrors the selfless devotion seen in earlier generations, much like the willing leaders who fully dedicated themselves to the nation during the time of Deborah [רש״י].

Under his command was a massive force of two hundred thousand soldiers. Remarkably, this was not just a large group of ordinary men; every single soldier within this vast unit was individually recognized as a mighty and highly capable warrior in his own right [מצודת דוד].
