II Chronicles 4:21Sefaria

וְהַפֶּ֧רַח וְהַנֵּר֛וֹת וְהַמֶּלְקַחַ֖יִם זָהָ֑ב ה֖וּא מִכְל֥וֹת זָהָֽב׃

The construction of the Temple's candelabra required extraordinary craftsmanship, focusing on intricate decorative details, specialized maintenance tools, and an unparalleled level of material purity. The floral decorations adorning the structure were crafted to resemble the blossoms of a tree [מצודת ציון]. This design may have encompassed the entire arrangement of the floral patterns [מצודת דוד]. Another perspective links these specific additions to a later instruction given to Moses, a detail that was absent from the original command for the Tabernacle's construction [רש״י].

To manage the daily lighting, specialized tongs were fashioned. These pincers were essential for handling the wicks, allowing the caretakers to grip, pull, and raise the wicks from the oil to position them perfectly within the lamps [רש״י, מצודת ציון].

The material used for these items was defined by its absolute perfection [מצודת ציון, רלב״ג]. The primary approach among commentators is that the gold was completely refined, achieving a flawless state entirely free of impurities or dross. Alternatively, this perfection indicates that every single tool and accessory associated with the candelabra was made exclusively of gold, without exception [רד״ק].

Achieving this supreme level of purity required a staggering amount of raw material. King Solomon crafted ten candelabras, and for each one, he started with a thousand talents of gold. He placed this vast quantity into a smelting furnace over and over again. Through this intense and repeated refining process, the gold was distilled and reduced until only a single talent of completely pure gold remained for each candelabra [רש״י, רד״ק].
