דברי הימים ב, פרק ד׳, פסוק כ׳

II Chronicles 4:20Sefaria

The placement and lighting of the menorahs within the Temple required precise craftsmanship and strict adherence to the rules of holy service. The physical structure of these candelabras is carefully detailed, specifically distinguishing between the main body of the menorah and its lamps. These lamps were bowl-like vessels designed to hold the oil and the wick [מצודת ציון]. This distinction reveals an important detail about how the menorah was assembled. While decorative elements like the cups, knobs, and flowers were forged as an inseparable part of the menorah's main body, the lamps themselves were entirely separate pieces. Because they were not permanently attached or welded to the main structure, they are noted independently [רש"י].

The primary purpose of these vessels was to be kindled [מצודת ציון, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. This lighting process was carried out exactly according to the laws and rules set forth in the Torah [מצודת דוד]. Once assembled, the menorahs were positioned in their proper place directly in front of the inner sanctuary, known as the Holy of Holies [מצודת ציון].

Both the menorahs and their separate lamps were crafted from a highly precious, rare, and excellent type of gold [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. This specific material was known as closed gold, a name it earned from its rigorous refining process. During this process, the gold was sealed inside the metalworker's crucible to be completely purified and stripped of any waste or impurities [מצודת ציון].
