II Kings 12:13Sefaria

Restoring the Holy Temple was a massive undertaking that demanded extensive practical and organizational planning. The funds dedicated to this sacred project were carefully channeled to hire skilled craftsmen and purchase vast amounts of raw materials, all to ensure the lasting stability and integrity of the structure.

The labor was carefully divided among various specialized workers. A key group was responsible for constructing the walls and fences [מצודת דוד, רד״ק, ביאור שטיינזלץ], specifically focusing on the enclosures of the large courtyard and the main Temple court [רלב״ג]. While the primary approach among commentators is that they built stone walls, an alternative perspective suggests they constructed wooden fences [מלבי״ם]. Rather than viewing them as simple laborers, another approach identifies these builders as senior stone artisans, architects, or master craftsmen who directed teams of other workers beneath them [רש״י, רד״ק].

Working alongside the builders were the stone hewers. These laborers had the grueling task of cutting and extracting raw stone directly from the mountains and quarries

Despite employing their own dedicated workforce, the sheer scale of the restoration required purchasing additional supplies. The hired laborers working in the mountains and in Lebanon simply could not produce enough on their own. Consequently, the project managers had to buy ready-made materials from outside sources, specifically acquiring timber that had already been cut and stones that were already quarried and chiseled

Finally, the allocated funds also covered a broad category of general expenses. This served as a comprehensive budget for any other needs required to strengthen and repair the building, extending well beyond the direct payment of workers and the purchase of wood and stone
