Having successfully secured her initial request and gained the king's favor, the woman shifts the direction of the conversation to reveal her true purpose. She formally asks for permission to speak once more. This renewed request is necessary because she is initiating a completely new phase of dialogue, one that is fundamentally different from their previous exchange [מלבי״ם]. Additionally, she seeks to add further thoughts [ביאור שטיינזלץ] and address matters that do not concern her personal situation [מצודת דוד].

Up to this point, she had presented her story convincingly. The situation was not foreign to the king, as a similar problem existed within his own home. With the groundwork laid, her objective now is to subtly hint at her real message. She carefully guides the dialogue so the king will realize her visit was actually orchestrated to discuss the affairs of his son, Absalom [רד״ק].
