To resolve these differences, certain individuals in this lineage are identified with more recognizable leaders. This matching process relies on the calculation of generations detailed at the end of the Book of Kings [מצודת דוד].

For example, the man named Azariah may actually be Amariah the priest, who appears in the historical records of the Second Book of Chronicles. Following this same pattern, Johanan is understood to be the well-known priest Jehoiada, a prominent figure whose actions are documented in both the Second Book of Kings and the Second Book of Chronicles.
