Genealogical records map out the chain of generations, following the family line from Ahitub down to Shallum. However, as the lineage moves directly from Ahitub to Zadok, an entire generation is skipped. A comparison with a parallel family tree found later in the book fills in this missing link. It reveals that Ahitub was actually the father of Meraioth, and it was Meraioth who fathered Zadok [מלבי״ם].
