The family line of the High Priests moves forward through history, running parallel to the era of the final kings of the Kingdom of Judah. Shallum held the position of High Priest during the reign of King Amon, a detail recorded in the historical work Seder Olam.

The sacred duties then passed to his son, Hilkiah, who took on the role of High Priest while King Josiah was in power. The priestly line later continued with Azariah, who served during the days of King Jehoiakim [מלבי״ם].
